It's believed that the single or lone star is derived from a flag that was very similar to the Bonnie Blue flag except that it had a gold star instead of a white star and flew over Texas from 1836 to 1839. It was under this flag that the people of Texas fought the Texas Revolution against Mexico. Texas won the war and declared its independence in 1836 and became the Republic of Texas. Texas remained an independent Republic until it became a State of the United States in 1845.
The color blue stands for loyalty, white for purity and red for bravery.
